*PROBABLY A SPOILER*
This wasn't a bad movie but it wasn't a good movie either. I'll try not say too much as there's another review here that perfectly captures my feelings on the film so I'll try keep it short.
I get that the voice actors are getting old and such but you've clearly got them in so wouldn't it make sense to make them do something? Jessie says a few lines, and a really unnecessary pun, Hamm, Slinky and the potato heads barely say or do anything, Bullseye does nothing and neither do a majority of the recurring characters.
Buzz got it the worst though, he really did, he was a smart and strong leader who was reduced into a running gag. It worked as a joke the first time but when every scene with him had him listening to his 'inner voice' it got old really quickly. I heard that he was one of the characters that was more focused on in this movie and it was disappointing to say the least.
The new characters are good at least. I found Bunnie and Ducky funny and they were fun comic reliefs. As was Duke Kaboom. But Gabby Gabby was certainly a highlight although the end of her character arc is predictable it really is satisfying when it happens.
Woody's still a fun character to follow and the fact that he's made far more tragic is certainly compelling. What starts off as him wanting to make people happy soon is revealed to be more of desperation than anything else, of course he still does make people happy at the end of the movie.
*SPOILERS NOW*
And Bo Peep was a nice character to add back to the cast but was it really necessary to bring her back just so Woody could leave? I like to think that Woody stayed with Bo because he saw how happy Gabby was when she found an owner and wanted to find other toys owners too because he just wants to see people happy. Of course it could just be a 'main character gets the girl' ending but that's a very poor way of ending this series revitaliser with such a cliché. Although I suppose Woody going back to the toys would've been a cliché too, at least that would've made more sense for his character.
In my opinion this film was a fun watch nonetheless but the ending just doesn't feel right. The ending of toy story 3 was far better at ending of a franchise with an impactful scene which still kept the cast together and made total sense for the characters. Woody lost all of his friends so he could get one back. I bet he's gonna regret that soon!
