I adore musicals and I do love Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I had my doubts going in to the movie. But I loved the movie! The visuals were stunning with the cats around London and landmarks, the film opened with a bang loved it. This version gives more clarity to the story of cats, why was Grisabella an outcast, why Macavity is there in the musical stealing people. Although some scenes they did differ from the orginal as in a different take on a song. It is a shame they used the westend version of mangojeri and rumpleteaser instead of the superior version from the 90's film.
My biggest grip with this film is why on earth are the cats so small!!! They are far too small for there environment. Like on the railway tracks they are like the size of mice and this is very disturbing when watching and extremely noticeable. I have to say this is extremely noticeable in the The railway cat song, on the tracks and in the railway carriage. They are just so small and makes it annoying to watch as they are like wierd strange mini cats, which is very creepy.
The lady who plays Grisabella is absolutely outstanding, I had goosebumps all the way through the memory song and the big ending, " touch me" omg, was like an electric shock going throughout my body. Judi Dench also amazing in this. A very very good cast, apart from Rebel Wilson who being Rebel Wilson made it too comical and silly.
But overall an incredible film, I loved it and will watch again.
