I feel like the majority of people who commented on the game being badly written are the ones who expected a happy ending. The game was never meant to make you feel comfortable because it was more "human" and realistic than the first game. Though we grew up with Ellie and Joel's tandem, you cannot compare it with the previous game especially with newly introduced characters. I have to admit playing Abby sucks, but it's also the reason why I feel like it's more "human". Life just rolls like that and given certain situations, you can either end up as Ellie or Abby. It also shows that everyone is a hero in their own story and can end up as a villain in someone else's. If we were to detatch the first game from the second, then we'd probably be able to see both of the girls' sides without bias.
