An album that definitely has grown upon me that has many textures, many beats and many McCartney´s. At first, you can think that he is only aiming at pleasing the audience with an effort of producing an album full of second half of the eighties sound, with all that sequencer and rhythmic boxes, but I was proven wrong.
Only now I understand that he was full onward with more music experiments that developed into many faces, such as The Fireman and his overseeing of the Twin Freaks project.
With lovely examples of ballads, rockers, pop, electronic, Paul was all over the place, not only far from his comfort zone, but also in his hit making mode, starting a amazingly prolific time for him that ended with him hitting the road for the first time after 8 years.
Also, you can enjoy the work of the likes of Phil Collins, Pete Townshend, Eric Stewart, Carlos Alomar and many other high caliber musicians who jumped at the opportunity of collaborating with Paul.
We can only hope that when the time comes for PRESS TO PLAY to get the Paul McCartney Archives treatment, we can get official access to all the demos and takes of the songs of the album, and of all those who haven´t seen the light of day albeit bootlegs here and there.
Press to play is full McCartney, with great lyrics "sprinkle around" with some inexplicable rhymes. Songs with the right amount of production, and others that needed to be left in alone that were not.
It is not a timeless album because you can tell when it was made, but that does not take away from its quality and the enjoyment it provides. A great album.
