This book is beautifully written and does a good job of portraying the struggles and issues with the church. The main characters problems are realistically written for the most part, and the characters are for the most part well fleshed out in their growth. The only issue I have is the ending with her parents, as it is very forced and unnatural and ends up accidentally making it seem like the parents are fully forgiven, despite the fact the mother was awful. Only the father’s ending had any sort of reasoning to it, and the mother seemed to have no growth and then sudden forgiveness in a way that was somewhat gross. Overall a great book that I greatly enjoyed and would recommend to those who feel alone or not understood, but I am deeply disappointed in the very cliche, bad parent suddenly sees problems of their ways sort of ending and I really wish there was more visible growth in the mother, maybe in seeing her care for the daughter.
