Well-written factual realistic overview of humanity presented from a big history point of view. Very thought-provoking and so logically submitted to the reader that it is not until a second reading that one finds that one can give alternate debating points. If you want a fairy tale, don’t study science or read this book. But if you want to really delve into topics you didn’t get a chance to study in college, this book makes you think. My advice is to read everything, not only this book, but all nonfiction with a view to finding debating points. This book offers the chance to think about what a human being is, what a government is, and how we happen to be born into this type of world. It tries to answer the hardest question, “Why?” And sometimes gets it right. Sometimes not quite right on. But its importance has more to do with getting people to lift themselves out of their mundane role-playing life and look at how we arrived at this point in time. A very worthwhile read.
