I thought the movie started well and then became predictable. The desire to end old characters was clearly abandoned but possibly saved the movie as the current one lacked character development. The movie seemed spotty and shifted around quite extensively. This latest iteration of Star Wars is a far cry from the originals. The protagonist appears juvenilish and lacks the mentoring of an ‘Obi Wan Kenobi’ or ‘Yoda’ and do it doesn’t fit well. Also the recent Star Wars movies lack the supervillain of Darth Vader. Kylo Ren comes across as a young kid with some power but not the fear that Vader caused. Darth Vader is not someone movie goers wanted to see in a dark alley. With Kylo Ren, I’d take my chances. I loved the increase in diversity in this movie. Finally this movie relies so heavily upon characters from the original trilogy that it probably owes George Lucas some money. I mean a lot of money.

The TV cameras following the participants ruins any belief that the show is real. What may real is the struggles of going from being on top and able to make things happen with a simple phone call, to not being able to use your social capital to get what you want. I’m sure it’s a struggle to drive a Honda Accord versus a Bentley or Ferrari every day. But if the network really wants a decent show, inbox me and I have a show. It’s about real people with real struggles and how they make it work no matter what. Students that go from homeless to college to internship to mentee of a multimillionaire. People who beat cancer but lose their job and have their home in foreclosure. Yet they worked to get it back! Real stories of real Americans.
