The cinematography, cooking and gardening, and Juliet Binoche were all beautiful. The gender politics and script were abysmal. This seemed another ode to the primacy men sitting around as they are waited upon by women. And that grated. The main male character may adore his cook, but he’s also happy to take the public credit for her culinary artistry. And she would rather serve him forever, rather than have full ownership of what she had built. Women cook, men chef. Did we really need to exalt that again?
