The beginning was rather slow and not giving to much meaning, to me, rather than indicating rude, cruel and even toxic human behavior. I even had asked myself " why was he this way?"
Eventually the movie unravels and it becomes rather clear as to why, Phil exhibits such a behavior. Eventually connections are established and slowly all the answers are there to see.
The human emotions, pains and instincts are quite well displayed. The big difference between two brothers, but both equally lonely, longing for another loving soul, in their lifes. Some may think, that Rose didn't need to suffer so much, but, to me, she represents sensitive character, who gets easily hurt by others cruel and senseless actions. Son's need to create peace for his mother eventually becomes so strong, that he acts on it, without any hesitation.
I trully enjoyed watching this mysterious movie, set in a beautiful scenery of Montana mountains. At times, I was intrigued, confused, upset, even sorry, through all 2 hours, of the movie. I hope it will be rewarded tonight with one or maybe more Oscars, as it is well deserved.
