There's a lot going on which can make it a little hard to follow. The majority of costumes/ hair styles of the main characters are not accurate to the 1850s/1860s. In many cases it's just 1 or 3 things that are just off. Garment being worn incorrectly, loose hair, wrong parasol for the period, style of dress off by 20 years, etc. However most people aren't seeing this movie for the fashion or accuracy to life at that time... So, as far as the storyline it seems a little predictable but only time will tell. I like how the Apache aren't being portrayed as the stereotypical bad guys and the story tries to show both sides of a complicated situation. Would I see it in thearters agian? Probably but more so I can get a better handle of the storyline/characters because I feel like I missed something. Overall not a bad movie and I enjoyed it for what it is and hope it gets better from here. I'd really like to see more films in this genre

Not at all what I was expecting but as a combat veteran's daughter, wife, niece, granddaughter, and cousin, I felt happy (?) with the portrayal of the struggle some of our combat vets go through. This movie hit close to home for me. Not everyone will get or understand this movie. Some will view the scene in the Portland bar as offensive only because they are seeing themselves in the mirror. Others won't get why the main character is so abrasive to which I say you must not have grown up around very many combat vets. But you'll always have people who don't get it and this film is not for them. My husband and I enjoyed the film and he LOVED the military humor and references. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to better understand that struggle or who has been there.
