Perhaps 3 stars is unfair - it suggests mediocrity and there is nothing remotely mediocre about 'Umbrella '. It's a clever book but difficult. Jumping between different times and characters- sometimes mid sentence- with no chapters . I have not found a book so challenging to read in decades and was relieved when I finally finished it!
