I love the first Creed. It was inspiring and emotional and I grew attached to the bond between Adonis and Rocky. Then Creed II came around and that’s when a shift in quality started to happen. The only redeeming part about Creed II was the callback to Drago but other than that it was fine. Fast forward to Creed III, what I hope is the final installment for this part of the franchise. They wanted to steer away from the Rocky and Adonis relationship and to their credit they succeeded. But you can not have an Adonis Creed without an Apollo Creed, you can not have an Apollo Creed without Rocky Balboa! So it was odd that they wouldn’t explain or at the very least allude to Rocky’s whereabouts being as he helped Donnie be the fighter that he is. Rocky was merely and briefly referenced so you wouldn’t think their characters met much less had a relationship. This movie felt disconnected to the original franchise that you truly don’t need to watch the first two to get it.
I recognize that it’s a different direction and understand what they tried to do but I’m not any less disappointed and unsatisfied. It just didn’t resonate with me.
