Ng does an outstanding job projecting an ethnocentric white America through the eyes of a teenaged main character. It is heartfelt and, for me, very close to a truth we may be stumbling into.
Librarians, teachers, parents and youth are heroes in this world. Chinese (and Asian Americans in general) suffer. In lesser hands this would be just another dystopian saga, ho-hum. But in Ng's world the story is alive and vital.
I felt I could be part of the solution after reading this book.
I am giving my copy to my daughter and buying one for one of my favorite librarians. Highly recommend.
