This was the best Godzilla movie in the franchise by a mile and probably the best drama I have seen seen all year! I went in blind to this movie without knowing the premise and I was very pleasantly surprised! The story takes place in a devastated post war Japan where our protagonist must overcome his inner struggles while attempting to rebuild his life from ruin. At the same time, he is continuously haunted by the demon (aka Godzilla) of his past in his daily life, which prevents him moving on until he faces his inner turmoil. The story was very well constructed with lots of depth and filled with dramatic twists and turns. The characters were all very dynamic and likeable. Something I particularly liked was the many layers to the struggle of the protagonists. None of this is what you would normally expect from a monster/ science fiction franchise. I strongly recommend this film to all drama, action, and science fiction enthusiasts. It does a great job keeping the story dynamic and entertaining while still remaining consistent to the underlying premise, which makes it appealing for a wide variety of audiences. I would easily rate this movie a 10 out of 10
