I found it cheesy, but enjoyable but these days I've been enjoying Chinese Novel dramas.
As to the source, I like Kakegur, but towards the end of the anime, I kind of lost interest, just felt like a shonen manga without a goal for the protagonist.
So, wasn't looking for a play by playing adaptation.
I like the Yumiko actress and her interpretation of the character. Most other characters seemed cheesy and like characters off a thrift rack on discount. Ryan Adedayo was cool though, and that black girl who became his slave tried small. But the 'handsome nerd' looked like a 20's movie portrayal of highschool seniors.
The bets were okay, and the plot made me want to see the last episode and see how each character grows at the end, however. The revenge plot sucked. Not because it was not true to the original character, but because it just sucked.
She wanted revenge on someone because she heard their name in connection to her parent's death and to the point that she felt no remorse after her alleged suspect died and simply moved onto the next person?
It would have made more sense if she simply spent the season gathering information. No kill lost, just pure investigation. Then the next season could be spent on revenge.
Anyways, season 1 is it for me. I don't expect a season 2 (But Netflix always favours these tiers of series) and do not see myself watching it. Just because of the plot of revenge which just sucked ass.
It's like they wanted to Blue Eyed Samurai it without the same level of character depth or understanding.
