The Winter King

Bloody awful. Constantly dark images which flatten out the actors expressions. Boring pacing. The usually American obsession with religious overtones giving the lead detective almost magical powers. Characters having visions of the missing person is such nonsense. And multiple short side incidents ranked in to play up the lead's magical powers. People watching him interview subjects and going " omg how does he do that!". He asked a bloody question, that's how. In the first episode one of the characters aspiring to be a writer is bluntly told "You're not a writer". Totally implausible but it does seem to apply to the series. I lasted 1.25 episodes before deleting it from my continue watching list. Awful.

The Calling

Absolutely appalling: a contrived tale of incompetence. One of those shows where every bloody character makes the obvious choice to make things worse. Murderer on the loose, a discussion that nurses should take care and wife immediately goes out into the dark to investigate an unexplained noise. Really? Ex lovers, forced into working together, and suprise they have a relationship. Really? Senior management jumps on every obvious solution to the case even though there are obvious loose ends. Are senior police officers really so incompetent. Really? Obvious red herrings and misdirection. People acting out of character, signalling the likely plot directions, contrivances of unknown children. There are so many better dramas around. This was just annoying and awful. Give it a miss if you don't want to end up shouting at your television.
