I feel the story connects well to what happened to Deborah Feldman - a woman who left that religion- but from a man's perspective in recent years, but making it an American romantic comedy.
It's just another very commercial movie, not a very credible execution from actors and the set up.
Entertaining but don't expect anything very exciting. It's overall pretty plane.
