At first I wasn't sure about this, but I grew to like it, the long silences, no distracting background music, just the characters and actors ability to communicate without words. Perhaps you need to have a long term partner and be in this age group to understand, but so many layers, the caring for the elderly parent, the grief for the lost child, the worry for the foster child, the money worries, the worry for the redundant husband at an age where it will be difficult for him to find work, his poor self esteem as his wife becomes the bread winner. The wife trying not to hurt him further and not being able to be open about how well she thinks/hopes her own job is going. The job she is desperate to do well in and hold on to, even though her boss is a twit. I think its brilliant.
