Young people from Pleasant Grove in Southeast Dallas have earned a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — they have been selected to walk players onto the field at four FIFA World Cup matches as part of the official Player Escort program. The opportunity came through Pleasant Grove Soccer & Sports, a local nonprofit focused on creating opportunities through soccer, mentorship, and community programming. Free soccer clinics helped participants become eligible for the program. Now the organization is asking for community support to cover the full cost of delivering the experience — including transportation, event coordination, staffing, and related programming that goes beyond their initial $2,500 grant. On June 3rd, a woman hiking near her property found a young dog by the river in critical condition. The dog weighed just 25 pounds, her gums were white, and she could barely stand. Her body was shutting down. Without cell service and too far out to call for help, the woman carried the dog out herself — stopping to rest along the way because the dog didn't have the strength to walk on her own. Despite everything, the dog wagged her tail. A vet confirmed she is severely anemic and needs an emergency blood transfusion and intensive hospital care to survive. Coach Barry Liles, the first head football coach of Claiborne County High School and a beloved educator, died Monday in a snorkeling accident on the North Shore of Oahu. He was 64 and had just retired at the end of the 2026 school year. Barry had spent decades coaching and mentoring young athletes across Tennessee — from Monroe County to Morristown East to Grainger County — before building the Claiborne County football program from its very first season in 2003. After stepping away from coaching in 2015, he returned to the school in 2025 simply to serve — restoring facilities, mentoring staff, and making sure the field looked its best for graduation. No one asked him to. No one paid him to. He did it because he loved his community. His wife Tina was with him in Hawaii and was rescued from the water but did not require medical attention. Brayden Shobe, a Florence, Kentucky police officer sworn in just last November, is facing a long and uncertain recovery after being assaulted while breaking up a bar fight. Brayden suffered serious brain injuries including an intracerebral hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, a separate blood clot, and an occipital fracture. He was treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where doctors worked carefully to dissolve the clot while monitoring his brain bleed. Update: Brayden has since been discharged and is recovering at home — but remains on blood thinners and requires very close monitoring as doctors continue to track his condition. Bryce Adair, a CBS Sports production assistant from Martinez, Georgia, died following a car accident while traveling to Ohio to work the Memorial Golf Tournament.
