Replying to @E C H A. this was not even 24 hours after his major surgery, and to our complete surprise, he was wide awake and so conversational. for the first time in a month, we got to have full conversations with him. he even brought up how he’s starting to remember a lot of things now, which feels nothing short of incredible. the nurse came in while we were there and told us they’ve never really seen success stories of AVM rupture recoveries come out of this hospital. they’re all rooting for him. his recovery has been so strong that he could be discharged soon, though he’ll still need 24/7 care until he’s fully cleared. what i noticed most is that he was repeating topics every 20 to 30 minutes. last time i saw him, it was every 3 minutes. this is HUGE progress!!!!!! george credits a conversation he heard from olympian eileen gu about neuroplasticity as a huge motivation in his recovery. he genuinely believes that if you tell yourself and trust that you will get better, then you will

for those who don’t know, on march 26, gerald’s brother @ujo suffered from an unexpected AVM rupture that led to a life-threatening emergency surgery. the surgeons were only able to stop the bleeding that day. removing the AVM itself would have caused more damage, so they left it in to let him heal. since then, every doctor, nurse, and person who has walked into his room has called his recovery an absolute miracle. april 21, my birthday, was the day of his major surgery. the doctors rated it a 9/10 in difficulty with a real risk of another stroke on the table. it was heavy. but we were hopeful, and we spent the day at the hospital waiting, praying, getting updates every three hours. and every single call was better than the last. by hour 8, we got the call we had been waiting for. surgery complete. we walked in and he was already moving, already talking. 🥹 i’m sharing this because when i visited him a couple days ago, he kept asking me what i did for my birthday (his memory is still a
