A newly revealed trove of photos depicts 10,000 people who had died in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s brutal prison system during his last decade in power. The trove is larger than an earlier cache of images known as the Caesar Files that was made public in 2014 and showed in grisly detail the torture and killing that occurred in Assad’s detention network. The new trove was obtained by German public broadcaster NDR and shared in October with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (@icijorg) and partner organizations, including The Washington Post, which examined the files.
