Nine pieces. Not one of them glows. ㅤ @ikea_australia and @xboxanz have made YXSTABY, IKEA's first gaming range designed with Xbox, and the trick is that almost none of it reads as gaming furniture. The rolling side table in ash and black felt is a console cabinet with a green-lined shelf inside for the controllers. The A-frame TV stand rolls away on castors. Tim Curry has died, aged 80. ㅤ His management confirmed he died peacefully at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, on Tuesday night. He had lived with the effects of a severe stroke since 2012. ㅤ Born in Grappenhall, Cheshire, in 1946, Curry (@officialtimcurry) built a career nobody else could have held together. The McGold Card is real. ㅤ For years it was Macca's folklore. Warren Buffett has said he holds one that works in his hometown of Omaha, and that Bill Gates has a version good anywhere in the world. Rob Lowe showed his on Jimmy Kimmel Live, reportedly active for a single year and tied to one franchisee. Dolly Parton has died at 80. ㅤ She wrote I Will Always Love You in 1973, as a goodbye to Porter Wagoner after seven years as his business partner. When Elvis Presley wanted to record it, Colonel Tom Parker told her the standard deal was half the publishing. She said no, and by her own account cried all night. Her version went to number one on the country chart twice, in 1974 and again with a 1982 re-recording. Whitney Houston then cut it in 1992, sat at number one on the Hot 100 for 14 weeks, and sold north of 40 million copies, still the best-selling single by a solo woman. The lion lived in the house. In 1971, LIFE photographer Michael Rougier spent time at Tippi Hedren and Noel Marshall's home in Sherman Oaks, where a 400lb male lion named Neil swam in the pool, sprawled across the kitchen floor and slept on 13-year-old Melanie Griffith's bed. It was research. The couple were writing Roar, a film about a family living among big cats, and they had decided the only honest way to make it was to live it. Los Angeles disagreed. Authorities found the animals in 1972 and ordered them out of the suburbs, so the production moved to a ranch in Soledad Canyon and kept going for another decade. Roar took 11 years and $17 million to finish, used around 150 untrained lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars, and injured at least 70 cast and crew. Cinematographer Jan de Bont was scalped by a lion and took 220 stitches. Hedren was bitten on the head, then broke a leg after an elephant threw her. 1,122 Aussie teenagers were surveyed. ㅤ A first of its kind study from the University of Melbourne (@unimelb), led by Dr Sara Meger and funded by the Office of National Intelligence, found that 24.7% of boys aged 13 to 17 think feminism is damaging to society and should be resisted with violence if necessary. 31.8% think attempts to give women equal opportunities have gone too far. ㅤ The finding the researchers keep returning to is that hostile attitudes towards women predicted support for violent extremism more strongly than race, religion, nationalism or politics. Licensed to distil since 1608. ㅤ That makes Bushmills the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. Four centuries later it is still in the same County Antrim village, and it is one of the reasons triple-distilled Irish single malt survived at all. By the 1970s Ireland was down to two working distilleries. On his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, Richard Osman named Jack Lowden as the actor being "strongly considered" for 007, calling him "amazing" with "real Daniel Craig energy." The detail giving the rumour extra weight: Bond 26's casting director, Nina Gold, is the same person who cast Lowden in Slow Horses.
