In February 1926, Ernest Friderich, Bugatti's agent in Nice, had his Type 35A fitted with a small closed coupé body and went hillclimbing along the Côte d'Azur, beating drivers entered in the outright race class at La Turbie. That car vanished not long after, its coachwork lost and its original chassis untraceable, leaving only a handful of period photographs as proof it ever existed. This car is two Bugatti collectors' answer to that mystery. Built around chassis n°4775 and completed in 2011 after three years of coachwork, woodwork and Weymann roof craftsmanship, it runs a supercharger-free Type 51 block for cooler, more usable mileage, its straight-eight breathing through a single carburettor exactly as postwar Bugattis did.
