This movie was super boring. I had to leave in the middle of it.
The โwitty banterโ between Hobbs and Shaw which is a central feature of the movie seems choppy and out of place given their action-packed circumstances. And even the action scenes seemed drawn out, they seemed TOO long.
The cameo scenes with Kevin Hart were also drawn out way too long and stopped being funny after about 2 minutes (felt like a 10 minute scene). Both on the plane and within the phone call. Even the scenes with the itty bitty Russian scientist seemed weird, and the stare down between him and Idris Elbaโs character was uncomfortably too long.
The movie even failed at a gut wrenching scene between Shaw and his sister, in which she wanted to sacrifice herself for the greater good of mankind. The โbondโ they tried to establish between the two characters didnโt seem loving or distinctly familial at all, except for the fact that they kept mentioning that โtheyโre Shaws.โ
Then from there is the last scene I could handle which was when they went to Samoa because Hobbs just conveniently had an estranged brother who somehow had the ability to repair a top secret Russian machine used for the purpose of extracting a deadly virus that less than 1% of the population knows about.
I digress. The scene in Samoa in which Hobbs reunites with his family is extremely awkward and cringeworthy. The switch between English and their native tongue isnโt distinct enough to prevent confusion, and the motherโs dialogue is VERY CRINGEWORTHY.
Thatโs it. After that I got up and left. Throughout the movie I was more occupied with finding a comfortable position in my chair so I could sleep.
TLDR; Boring, Badly-Paced, 100% Cringeworthy. Decent action scenes that lasted way too long. Only good thing was Idris Elba.
