The game forces our characters to act in a way they'd never act just to push an agenda and to kick start the story. It isn't the fact a main character has died, it's the fact they didn't respect them and above all else, they knew what fans wanted, but decided not to give them that. It's lazy, instead of doing a plot that spans over the course of the game, leading to a main characters death in a realistic circumstance that happens beyond their control, and after a genuine build-up". No, instead they just say "Ah, well we'll make Joel an idiot even though we know from the first game that he was way too cautious to do that, all to push along the story but in doing that, we completely disconnect from the story.
