Honestly people who hate this show are just hating on it cuz they think it's "trying to be anime" and mainstream actors they want to hate are voicing the roles of characters, thus Neo Yokio's existence somehow threatens/ruins/insults the medium of Anime or something. It does use an anime style and actually has some fun anime references, but Neo Yokio is very clearly it's own little niche animation.
I can understand why someone wouldn't like it if they didn't enjoy the humor though. It's a very modern sort of satirical humor that's in line with western animations for kids, teens, and young adults out right now but if that already wasn't your thing than I can't imagine you enjoying it. Think Fraiser meets Star vs The Forces of Evil with a little side of Seinfeld.
It's a fun watch that doesn't take itself seriously much so I recommend to give a try. There's an interesting meta commentary in the story that deals with classism and critique of the idle rich in a culture of consumerism+capitalism that is quite interesting. Some people stopped watching at episode one because they said the show was pretentious but that's.... the point lol. As you watch you realize quickly the protagonists life style and that of the upper class Neo Yokians is a problem. However the show unfortunately ends without resolving this issue, but that's probably due to budgetary issues (which is also why it feels rushed plotwise). I imagine if they had a bigger budget to spend on more episodes a lot of loose threads would be wrapped up. I would love to see more of this show and for this plot point to be explored more and even resolved in some way.
