I’m not sure why this got so much hate upon release - my wife and I are harsh critics of the movies we watch and we both enjoyed this. This was surprising for me because I’m usually not a fan of musicals and I was expecting a dumpster fire of a movie because of all the reviews. We enjoyed the 50’s style of some of the musical numbers, and the gut-wrenching beauty of the orchestral score. The exploration of Arthur’s psychology as both a broken man and a mystical figurehead of anarchy was compelling and (just like the first movie) allowed me to see the character of the Joker in a new and interesting light. I think this movie may be a sleeper - it was artfully made.
