This book is topical and should give readers pause during our current political atmosphere and policies. If we truly knew the situations immigrants are fleeing, we would treat them more humanely.
I read it several years ago, and it stayed in mind,so I chose it for our book club. I'm looking forward to the discussion and may add more to my review after our discussion.
Allende does an excellent job of revealing the characters as the plot progresses.
Incidentally, there is humor . It isn't a didactic read.
