I only just started this so this is a preliminary review but I really don't understand why "down-to-earth" needs to be reflected as tacky and tactless and distasteful. I really wish they hadn't taken that route with things. No matter what, someone going to a palace for work should at least attempt to be on their best behavior which this female lead didn't even remotely bother to do. It's quite the turnoff. The insanely gorgeous prince, however, definitely makes up for it enough to keep me watching. I just hope they don't drag out the female lead's tacky behavior much longer. We get it. Point made.
I personally think I would have preferred if they'd made the female lead character more of an average, everyday girl (you know, one who knows how to eat with a damn knife and fork) and made the royals more snobbish to maintain the dichotomy they're attempting to attain. As it is...it's like starting a piano ensemble on a lower scale than needed. If that makes sense. Like, increase the standards set for BOTH the female lead AND the royals.
I'll update my review upon finishing the drama. I'm hoping it gets better.
*** UPDATED REVIEW ****
This could have been so much better. The story was there for it and I'd say the budget too. It's the execution that wasn't what is should have been; mainly the directing just just didn't get the job done. This had a crazy amount of potential. Such a loss.
It's not a bad watch if you just want to pass some time though. It's just that I could have easily fallen in love with it had certain things been done differently.
