This Movie does not Depict the full picture of what happpened in Somalia at the time. It depicted well the political strategies of both nations, political strategies of survival and the international relations of the respective Korean Countries, communism, capitalism,
Most Rebels were freedom fighters, trying to oust Siad Baree who was a blood thirsty greedy dictator using tribalism to divide Somalis. The movie does well to depict the corruption of his government.
I am sure majority of this movie was made to
1. Create some form of Unity between the North and South
2. It was also created maybe to win an accolade that is celebrated by the western, because they disliked any and all rebels who were mere citizens fighting for their countries, and freedom.
3. To further depict the lawlessness of Somalia and lack of moral values
4. To depict that Somalia rebels used many child-soldiers (which was not the case)
The Korean governments did not take responsibility for putting themselves in a position of a war or ousting of a president. The red flags were there and were ignored
Overall it was not objective in acknowleding the good the revolutionaries did. instead they called them rebels.
I cannot say i am surpised because South Korea has always been an ally of western countries. I wonder if it was a North Korean depicting this story, what would they have depicted in the political sphere
