I do not write reviews, but this one pulled at me. Animation has to be seen, to be understood. Meaning. You can't assume because it's animated that it's not adult (otherwise why not make it live action). The trailer for this left me confused, there was no depth. But now I understand - it's a layered story. It pulls you in with technology (UI), then instead of explaining it at length, it creates a story where it is happening, and through the characters, you see the effects it has from those that are victims, to those who are in it for profit and fame.
Each character is tied to it in different ways. The beauty of this story, is that we meet characters, who already have interesting back stories, but how it is tied into the technology, is never revealed at first. This weaving allows for us to understand them as people who soon become pawns. We are invested.
I'm only half done, and these twists and turns, these cliffhangers, have me amazed at how layered and deep this writing is. It becomes real...and possible, in the viewers mind. And that's why it's a winner in my book
