This whole movie felt like a giant missed opportunity. It had potential to be something special with a prestige director at the helm
And Priscilla herself as a producer, and the early rave reviews had me really excited. I could go on and on about why it was disappointing to me, but I donโt even feel vested enough it to bother- Iโll leave it at that it was boring, flat, aimless, fragmented, and lacked any depth, and the rushed ending was really ineffective. Sometimes style, vibe, and superficiality can work as enough to carry a film, they have for me with other Sofia Coppola things, but it just didnโt land here. Maybe if theyโd slowed down and put a little more effort in instead of rushing it out so quickly to ride the wave of last years movie, I donโt know. Cayley Spaeny does what she can with the part and is the best thing in the movie, but sheโs given so little to work with here. In priscillas Elvis and me book, she comes across with a defined personality and an arc of growth throughout the course of the marriage, here sheโs just an empty shell floating around staring longingly into space. I get maybe thatโs the point, but it just didnโt amount to anything worth watching. Jacob Elordis Elvis was a no go he did the best he could I guess considering how terribly miscast he was, but you canโt really overcome that.
