The acting was awful, it lost so much of it's appeal by trying to rewrite the narrative.
Halle Bailey was an awful actor and mediocre singer. She looked gorgeous but it just didn't sell the picture. Her lines fell flat when she wasn't as enthusiastic or daring as the animation.
Her father in the movie was very monotoned and didn't come across as scary or overbearing as the animation. The sister were pointless in this and just made no sense why they were all different ethnicities.
Prince Eric was okay but not my first pick of actors.
The Queen was pointless character too.
Scuttle was disaster in general and the song made from the character was more annoying than charming. Flounder looked rediculous...
The CGI needed more work especially on Ariels hair/dreads as it didn't move correctly. Don't get me started on the strawberry blonde colour.
The change of the lyrics is just hilarious and not in a good way.
Prince Eric's song just wasn't needed and he could hardly sing.
Ursula was pretty good but the makeup was tragic and one brow was clearly too short.
Vanessa was amazing! The acting and fury was perfect and really matched the aesthetic and brought the animation to life.
I was so disappointed that the humour from the animation did not carry into the live action at all. Especially with the memorable chef scene.
Over all it was a flop and clearly just a film to force an agenda. It lacked the Magic and happy childhood nostalgia we get from Disney films. You could tell it wasn't going to live up to much when they had to publicise it so hard as it's everywhere and branded on everything.
All that effort and the world wide audiences still agree it failed to reach a decent standard
