I went into this show expecting a good time. A little slapstick, some sophomoric humor perhaps, but comedy for sure. In that, I was not disappointed. But in the depth of it's thoughtfulness, I was shocked. The Orville is both poetic, and poignant. At times it has the wholesome sensibility of an Eagle Scout, other times we are subjected to a beagle licking it's balls on a screen the size of a wall. This show is written with love, intelligence, humor, and a heart the size of a planet. I really can't recommend it enough. At times I admit I must suspend my stodgy old hardcore nit pickiness, and just give myself permission to let it be fun. But it has been worth it every time. Even if you are not a Star Trek fan, you owe it to yourself to watch this.
