A surprising film. I must admit to finding it challenging to watch but persevered because I was handstitching and couldnโt be bothered stopping to find something else. Watching people pretend to have sex is not my cup of tea. I feel uncomfortable for them, even if they donโt. And I got annoyed at Emma Thompsonโs character more than once. And at the male character for going along with the female characterโs disrespectful behaviours.
The film was at times cliched, and out of the realm of true to life conversation (itโs not fantasy genre) so I wondered what was the point, especially that awful far fetched interaction with the waitress? However overall it is well acted by both main performers, to a tight though at times cringeworthy script.
Despite all that Iโm glad I saw it. I am more impressed now with Thompson than ever, and I am already a fan!
I give it a 6.85
