The use of social media is completely unnecessary, it was added just to make it "timely" and highlight Addison Rae's influence on tiktok/youtube/etc.
Chick flicks may always have the same generic storyline, but it's the details that matters. How you tell the story is vital. But this film's narrative feels completely dissociated.
There are two ways of cringey acting: good and bad, Joey King's cringey acting in Kissing Booth is good, Addison is definitely the cringey bad type (just perky, no soul). Myra Molloy is even better in acting. I mean, yes, Addison may be new to acting, hence the more reason not give her the main role just yet.
Tanner proved himself in other series/movies, so nothing to say against his acting but the fight scene has to look like "karate" just to highlight Tanner's involvement or skills in Cobra Kai? No thank you.
So yeah, put in a Kardashian to increase the views based on her popularity, Rachel Leigh Cook to make it a little nostalgic... and what, they can't cast Freddie Prinze Jr. so they cast Matthew Lillard instead (Shaggy in lieu of Fred). Why not toss in Sarah Michelle and Linda, or hell, go include Scooby while they're at it.
The only thing that's helping this film to get watched is because of the gender-bent story of 90s movie She's All That. That's it!
