tldr; can be helpful for people around 15, but anyone above 16 probably shouldnt be watching the show. some scenes are really unnecessarily s*xual overall. i think its sometimes funny, but other times it goes a bit too far (usually the s*xual bits) and it will most likely make you uncomfortable. random at times. sometimes inconsistent, but sometimes it actually handles things well. in my opinion, it isnt necessarily a horrible show. i just dont know who this was intended for. i am a teenager and while i can relate to most of the things shown on screen, and do think it taught me some things, i just dont know how/why this show has a mature rating and such mature content. i could NOT imagine a grown adult watching this, theres a bunch of gross things that are done with these characters (which theyre all around 14 - 15) that sometimes seem like its borderline child p*rn. they show their private areas and a lot of other things im uncomfortable with saying. it sometimes even gets uncomfortable for me, someone who is around the characters age range, while watching this show. so was it not made for me? again, i just cant imagine adults watching this show. and i also think its disgusting to imagine adults even writing and animating this show. so basically, this show would probably be taken down if it was actual children, but gets a pass because theyre animated children. okay then? despite this, i do really like matthew's story and character development. i think they handle lgbtq issues quite well and i enjoy relating to matthew. (im not straight as you could probably tell haha) so yeah, sometimes the show deals with things better than expected. i also like jay and think his thing with getting a pillow pregnant is kind of funny. a lot of people seem to have problems with adults voicing the teenage characters, but to be honest i find it really hilarious and ironic. speaking of things being funny, i do think that some of the jokes are funny, but most of the time its hit or miss. then again, ive never been one for most "edgy" comedy. i dont like south park, family guy, or any of the other shows that are similar, i just dont find them funny personally. i do think king of the hill and bob's burgers (for example) are funny though, so i dont have a full distaste toward animated comedies. i also hate how inconsistent the hormone monster thing is. sometimes people are randomly able to hear and see the hormone monsters, which is kind of weird because in the first season it was established theyre supposed to be only seen by the kid theyre working with. they just randomly make people be able to see and hear them when they think it will be funny. which brings me to my next point, randomness. this show just establishes random things exactly where they think itll be funny. (ex: jessi wearing a pad to the swimming pool and it turning into a huge pad and sucking up the whole swimming lake.) sometimes, its fine and is actually funny, but other times it just makes no sense and the joke doesnt land. in conclusion, i dont really think its one star, but i think 2 or 3 stars is more fitting. im just going to keep it at three.
