If $20 is disposable income to you, it's worth it. I think the game is worth $20 if you really like animal survival games. However, if you expect any sort of integrity in game development then I would say no, don't support these devs.
I supported this game since 2015. Most of my playtime was from Legacy in 2016-2018. It was a great game then.
The game itself is still fun despite the horrific bugs that has plagued it since 2019 (that I'm still willing to overlook), but this dev teamโs management of everything outside of the coding is the most inept, rude, arrogant thing I've ever had the misfortune of coming across on Steam, and that includes Day of Dragons.
They have no idea how to be transparent to their community or accept non-offensive criticism. Any criticism the players give, the team ignores or bans you for.
Examples:
1. Dondi's 'hahaha gotcha' death cliffs are STILL in the game despite widespread outcry about the anti-fun gameplay they imposed since 2019. Imagine you grow you dino for two hours from a baby, sneaking around and staying alive. You smell water to the north, so head on over. You walk through some bushes. Instead of your life ending in a fun combat scenario or other player interaction, you die instantly because HAHAHA there was a cliff there! GITGUD! Every single cliff in this game is covered in bushes so you can't see it. The gullies are littered with corpses of players who wasted their time growing their dino without daring to look at the 3rd party map website. It's a terrible design when the player base has to go outside of the game for resources just to stay alive.
2. Global chat was removed from ALL servers. Dondi has decided that you must play how he wants, even if you host your server - you canโt have a chill dino server. There was widespread complaints about this - that options were removed from the game. Global chat had been an option pre-2019.
3. You can no longer invite your friend to your pack/herd unless youโre standing right on top of them. Remember, thereโs no in-game map, so you and your friend must now figure out where each other are with a 3rd party website. If you get disconnected, youโre booted from the herd/pack even if you were offline for only a few moments and must find your friend all over again. Death is very common in this game, so everytime you die it's a whole new mini-game of โfind your friendโ for the next thirty minutes. It is frustrating, but according to Dondi its for the sake of rEalIsM.
4. Lack of transparency. We were promised a rapid fire of new playables years ago and we still havenโt seen it yet. Things happen, whatever, but when the dev team is called out on broken promises instead of apologies we get Kissenโs sarcastic responses and a ban if you keep on pressing. You see, the dev team made a Roadmap that showed which update would have what in it. Anytime players asked questions, they would point to the roadmap. If it isnโt in the roadmap, then it isnโt coming soon they said. Just follow the roadmap to know what's coming up over the next few years. Trust the roadmap they said. And what did they do? They completely wiped the roadmap and remade it! The order of everything changed! The promised order of releases and updates were gone to fit their delays. We will be told something is coming out in the next update, then they say, โNo, we never said that, it isnโt on the roadmapโ (the same roadmap that they just completely got rid of..) then someone will post screenshots of them saying exactly that on the Discord and the post will be deleted and the user threatened with a ban for being โoff topicโ.
