I want to give it a 1 star rating, but the imagery, effort and investment are deserving of an extra star. For the rest itโs such a disappointment. It feels as if this movie was made to reinforce the (failed) original critique that so called critics and connoisseurs had towards the original Joker. Thereby proving how real the Hollywood agenda really is. They tried to break down the original movie before it was released, and failed miserably as the audience loved it overwhelmingly. Then they chucked a massive amount of cash so far down the directors throat that he was forced to make a sequel that totally destroys his original narrative. And wow do they succeed! However, unfortunately for Hollywood, this time the audience is again on the other side of the scale, because no one really likes it, as ann audience rating of around 33% illustrates.
So much doesnโt make sense when watching this movie. Why a musical as a sequel to a dark highly refined drama? Really? One or two songs ok, but half the movie?? I couldnโt help but get this weird feeling it is meant to amplify Lady Gagaโs stardom into the world, to later be used as a drug for whatever satanic imagery her next concert might choose to display.
All in all I felt let down. I went in not knowing much, and not wanting to compare this to the original , as I know that would be a recipe for disaster. But to go so astray from almost all the original direction, triggers too many red flags. Dunno whatโs goons happen with the rest of Todd Phillips career, but to say that he sold his soul to the devil wouldnโt be that far off the mark.
