If you were looking for a faithful live adaption of the original show, you’re looking in the wrong place. I expected a condensed, somewhat changed version but not like how they wrote it. The show somehow manages to butcher most of the plot and even borrows a concept from Korra (also seen in the 2nd Yangchen book) much to my shock, as well as plots from book 2 to make the messed up season 1 water book plot work. And heck, they don’t even go to the north pole for Aang to learn waterbending in this show. They go there for a different reason revealed in episode 2. The characters are also changed to varying degrees. I really don’t like how they portrayed and wrote Boomi’s lines at all. Zuko’s and Azula’s relationship to their father and to each other is also messed up. Also, all of the kataang moments from the orignal are just deleted and there was no attempt to add any new ones in. I have no idea if Aang even has a crush on Katara in this show. It’s better than the infamous movie, but a disgrace to the source material. I hate to see what they’ll do to Toph’s story in the next season if it gets a 2nd season. The acting felt pretty.. bland too. Felt like moments that should have had greater emotion didn’t. Go ahead and watch it if you want, but guaranteed by episode 4 or 5 you’ll be wondering how can they change it even more drastically at this point.
