Beautifully written— you feel you are really there, and the depth of characterization leads to the sense these are real, three-dimensional human beings. Cushla in particular feels utterly authentic. So wise in how she treats the brutal, senseless violence— from both sides. This is a sad book but so engaging and involving that I couldn’t put it down. I would read anything she wrote in the future.
