โThe Ritualโ goes far beyond the simple cliche scenario of the group of friends who go hiking and get into a bad situation with a scary monster.
This movie begins with the principle horror story, which is the main character witnessing and dealing with the murder of his friend, and not being able to have done anything about it. People like to criticize this movie without including this essential part.
The monster surely is a Norse mythological creature but it is fictional and should be considered as such. The monster represents the main characterโs guilt, and it consumes him the entire movie. The monster hunts others who do not bow down to it, and hangs them on trees. What it really depicts is how guilt consumes those who do not have the courage to look at it in the face and accept it.
I think this movie is a masterpiece, donโt listen to any bad comments!
