I love this tele-novella. The two seasons are very different in terms of cast, characters and story lines. The first season tells the true stories of five woman who get involved with a Colombian drug cartel, all for very different reasons. Led by Braulio, the cartel is comprised of various members including body guards, pilots, fixers, cooks, accountants and distributors.
When season 1 starts we see Braulio still at the top of his game, whereโs heโs been for about twenty years. We see parties at his estate and at his beach house, luxury vacations and shopping sprees. Everyone is living the high life between routine murders and explosions. Toward the end of season one everything starts to break down. People die, loyalties shift and rats get involved with the police from at least three countries.
Season two resumes eight years later. Characters that survived season one are reunited to face off against the Jimenez family, a rival cartel. Each in their own way. The two actors playing the father and son Jimenezโs are excellent, offering up some truly sinister behavior. But season two is really all about the women. Revenge is the theme. It is not based on the documentary book but is fiction. Lucracia is the star is season two. The writers gave her a very interesting story line. Sheโs on top, sheโs on the bottom, sheโs on top and then on the bottom again. I wonโt tell you how it ends for her. Of the new characters I really like the actress who played Janeth and her story line especially the last twenty episodes. However, there is one fatal flaw in the mix of the second season, the new actress playing the character Brenda. I really tried to give her a chance but I just didnโt think she was a good fit for the role. She was flat and uncharismatic, especially compared to the previous actress who played Brenda. Season one Brenda and Braulio had great chemistry, you could feel it through the tv screen. Season two Brenda and Braulio had zero chemistry. I would love to see a season three but I donโt think it will happen.
