Campy, gory, and sweet. A very old story told through a very new lens, packed with action and support groups. Robert Kirkman has a way of reshaping the stories you know into something new and exciting. Nic Cage is over the top in all the best ways, while Hoult and Awkwafina do a fantastic job driving the heart of the film.
Im probably alone in this, but my only complaint was the pacing. Being only 90 minutes long, a lot gets packed in and sometimes feels rushed. I think even an extra 10 minutes to flesh a few scenes out and this would've gotten a fifth star from me.
It is exactly what it aims to be: a dark, action-packed, comedy about the world's most famous vampire and his often overlooked "familiar" who's ready for a change.
I'd recommend this film if you're looking for a quick and easy viewing experience. It was fun to watch and flies by!
