I just watched this some years after its production. The sole reason for the 2 stars is because of the frustration at the incompetency of all involved, including the British investigators. One woman was 'head-hunted' to ensure that Madeleine's disappearance was 'visible' to the world, heh? What was she paid? Another so called British child exploitation 'expert' says that upon meeting the dad, Gerry, he didn't find him 'warm'. What the? The Portugese head honcho (God help us all) considers that the mum could not have 'peeped' under the bed (upon realising that MM was gone) because the base of the bed nearly went to the floor (wouldn't you peep?). A 'higly respected' Portugese journo later dined at the tapas restaurant at the same table which was clearly in line of sight to the apartment (albeit from some distance) but the pull down plastic blind made it 'blurry or dirty''. Her conclusion: the whole group were clearly liars and in cahoots. Porque? You couldn't make this stuff up, it was so bad. The whole lot were a bunch of buffoons apart from the poor parents and the men falsely imprisoned and accused.
