The characters are poorly developed (no backstory about their past or present lives, their family and social background, religious beliefs, training, education, economic strata, insecurities, flaws, etc). Unlike the other franchises, the protagonists here face no ethical dilemmas in the conduct of their jobs (no friction with superiors, colleagues or their own convictions). Everything is hunky-dory. The pace is slow (almost like watching a Sherlock Holmes episode from the last century). Comes across as boring and stale, like almost any Canadian production (such as Hudson and Rex, Murdoch Mysteries, Private Eyes). The episodes draw from current or recent headlines, but the excitement and potential are not fully exploited. I feel no connection at all to any of the characters. The writers have not given me any reason to care or feel invested in any of the characters, not for the 2 detective leads, or their boss. I am not a professional, but with my screenwriting background, I think I can develop better characters and write way better episodes.
