First read this wonderful book in the early 1990s, having picked it up second hand. I never forgot the enthralling world of moles who are both proper moles, living as moles do, but who also have libraries, faith systems, humanity, honour and betrayal. A haunting tale. It is the first in a trilogy, but i never had the other books. Only recently was I given a second hand copy of Duncton Tales the first book in a SECOND trilogy set in the same world. Reentering thf world of moledom prompted me to find and order all the other Duncton books, which I hadn't realised existed. Happy days. Unable to put them down, I have read them in aeroplanes, taxis and trains - if you haven't already read Duncton Wood, do so and you will be off on an epic journey of moles who will live long in your memory.
