I’ve enjoyed some of Tim Wintons previous books, but just couldn’t get into this one. I think it was an ambitious story, trying to build a picture of a harsh and foreign landscape, but fell short. The narration in the audio book was distracting and I found his voice too coarse and at times overly dramatic. I was surprised that with the focus being on only one character and a couple other side characters, I still couldn’t get a sense of what made him tick or why he made certain decisions. The dialogue between characters was also unconvincing. Unfortunately not a story that resonated with me.
