Do yourself a favor and watch this film if you're in the mood for some action. It's a fantastical film one of the absolute best on it's genre with a rush of feelings up and down, you're genuinely dragged into the story I felt like the movie made an awesome job in making you care about the characters.
One thing deserving of pointing out overall is how "real" the action scenes with the aircrafts look specially in a world dominated by CGI I certainly appreciated the realness. It's an absolute slap in the face to any action film that overuses CGI nowadays.
I don't understand the mediocre ratings this movie gets from pencil neck geeks on specialized film review sites, maybe they are unable to understand a testosterone ridden film like this one. I understand that it might not be for everybody the depth of detail that they get into about aviation but that's not a big issue, you don't really have to understand or like planes to enjoy the action. I also felt like the romance scenes dragged in a bit too long with "take my breath away" playing in the background but it certainly didn't affect how I felt about the movie.
This movie was filmed in 1986 during the cold war so even if the scene at the end didn't mention "Russia" or anything like that it made perfect sense.
The casting was just great everyone fit in perfectly and I'm excited to see the sequel and watch how the "Iceman" and "Maverick" characters developed over the years.
