I know many are very disappointed with how the story here plays out and there are a few obvious moves by the developers to include the LGBT community. However, Ellieโs sexual preference is strongly suggested in the first game and the second only developed it further. As for Lev, i could go into that but this topic is not my point in writing this. The actions and demeanor of the characters, especially the main ones are actually fairly realistic and psychologically sound, though not healthy. Joel the ruthless and untrusting killer from the first game finally found something redeeming in Ellie and had began to soften. He and his estranged brother had mended fences as well. Finally Ellie just hours before had told him she was willing to forgive him. Any human being in that context especially considering that of the entire first game would be on cloud 9 and more apt to let their guard down. Besides the fact that he had no choice but to trust Abby considering the alternative was death by horde of infected. By the time he had a choice it was far too late and his fate was sealed considering him and Tommy being outnumbered by very determined, combat-hardened ppl and in extremely close quarters.
As for Ellie, considering she was taking out her anger on Joel at not being able to carry out her suicidal mindset under the most justifiable terms (saving humanity is a pretty excuse). And then deciding that maybe her life does matter, thus just barely starting to mend her relationship with Joel. Then he gets tortured and murdered in front of her. The spiral of self-loathing and rage that plays out the rest of the game is actually reasonable and predictable given that she is a severely traumatized orphan so far only used as a means to an end by everyone except Joel and her newfound community in Jackson. However the secret she carries diminishes the trust she has in everyone other than Tommy and Joel. Finally letโs not forget she is still basically a child 18-25 is not the most stable or experienced age range. And she falls in the lowest end of that. So complain all you want. The dark and twisted first game is well complemented by the dark and traumatic second. I am a huge fan of the first, beat that like 20 times almost in a row. And I very much like the sequel. Besides after all the hype there is no way LoU2 could have lived up to the standards set by the community.
Also making us play as Abby in my opinion was a very devious and purposeful way to evoke emotion and even semi-traumatic feelings in the player. No one who played the first will every decide that Abby is alright. Perhaps the developers were just messing with us considering they likely knew that many would complain about this sequel no matter what.
Anyway thatโs my 2 cents.
